Nothing else gives you so much permission. A blue rose is fine, a purple sunflower is fine, and nobody can tell you the petals are the wrong shade. That makes these pages unusually good for a child who has become anxious about getting things right.
Making petals look round
Colour each petal slightly darker where it meets the centre and lighter at the tip. That single move turns a flat shape into something that curves, and it works with crayons as well as pencils. Leave a thin white line between neighbouring petals and they separate instead of merging.
For a long quiet session
The mandala and the botanical study are the slow ones. Both suit fineliners rather than pencils — the individual areas are small, and a sharp point keeps the edges clean.
Printing
Print at 100% scale rather than “fit to page”. Letter in the US and Canada, A4 elsewhere. Markers need 120gsm cardstock.
